What is Web 2.0?

Well thanks to Tim O'Reilly for coming up with the phrase, all I can now think, everytime I hear a client mention the topic, is Vanilla Ice's song 'Ice Ice Baby' he rap's about the Ford Mustang car he drives around which has a 5.0 engine in it!

Tim came up with the phrase 'Web 2.0' in 2004 to refer to a supposed second generation of internet based services that let people collaborate and share information online in perceived new ways. Tim O'Reilly part of O'Reilly Media, in collaboration with MediaLive International, used the phrase as a title for a series of conferences and since then it has become a popular, if ill-defined and often criticized, buzzword amongst the technical and marketing communities.

For many of us Web 2.0 has been around for donkeys years. Those forums you've used when you have had a problem with your router, or when you can't get passed level 7 on Lara Croft, Tomb Raider. Are there new ways of marketing online already been used and just waiting for us to put a name on them so it's easier to understand. If so, I am claiming Web 2.1 or 3.0 first!

Will RSS Feeds replace Email?

RSS feed is short for 'Really Simple Syndication' and enables users to tailor what information is fed to them. Delivery is either by browser or in some cases on their desktop. Apple have a RSS fed screen saver that shows the top stories from your favourtite websites, a simple press of F5 takes you to that story, so you are able to read further informationa Maybe a slight gimick, but something that is quite enjoyable to look at. RSS is part of web 2.0 (i hate the term) and ties into a two way communication between website and user. So the question is will RSS replace email? My thoughts are eventually it will, it might be simple syndication at the moment, but as technology advances will it be too long until the user has signed up to everything that they are interested in and the new kids on the block don't even get a look in. I could even see new revenue streams happening by internet startups actually paying their core audience to take their RSS feed, with the hopes that on the backend of it they will purchase a product from them. Email will still probably exist and be used as a shop window. Content is very much king, more and more brands will have an increase in copy writing skills, the better the copy the more users who will sign up to your RSS feed, the more users who sign up to your feed, the less people who are signing up to your competitors feed. But you already knew all this anyway!

Its official 'BIG WEDNESDAY' is the best film ever!

After an extensive poll we found that 'Big Wednesday' is the best film ever.
If you have never seen the picture before we highly recommend catching up with Matt Johnson and his pals. A little fact about the film is it went on release the same time as Starwars and as a result was a flop at the theaters. It has since become the most highly rated movie in the surfing community.

Where are all the Xbox 360 games?

I've owned an Xbox 360 since launch and am quite disapointed that there are
very few titles out for the console. I have not purchased a game for almost 4 months.
Is this Microsoft's marketing strategy to hold back the major titles and release them when
Sony's PS3 and Nintendo's Wii consoles hit the market around Christmas?

There are a couple of new titles coming up in the next few weeks, but none have great reviews and everyone in the XBOX 360 community are waiting for Halo 3.

Whats your thoughts?

It's official BT Broadband are rubbish. After 6 weeks of telling me there is a fault with the line I am still no closer to getting an engineer out to fix it. If you are thinking of signing up, I would'nt bother!

No, it's true, hoenestly - we did go to Barbados and have several witnesses to prove it!

I would recommend the place to anyone (Almond Beach Club and Spa), it was really nice, hot and relaxing, the people were friendly
and helpful and the facilities were excellent. It was also a no kid zone, which made the whole thing that much nicer!

Although now we're back at work it feels like we've never been away :)

Check out the work we are doing to update our studio floor. If you look really closely you can see our design team overlooking the final plans. The idea is to take it back to it's natural brick work and highlight some of the timber. Think they might have gone a bit too far this time?

I wanted to update the site with a picture of the Yukon river, our team's name sake.

We hear that as the river flows it transforms from a well paced and efficient river to fast and furious rapids and back again... a bit like some of our projects.

We're still working on getting our MD to send us on a trip to explore the area that gave us our name - we'll keep you posted on our progress :)
